This story covers SUNY Brockport President Heidi Macpherson’s decision to sign a national statement defending academic freedom against political interference. It features perspectives from students and faculty, highlighting concerns about research funding, free expression, and recent actions by the Trump administration.
Proposition 1 passes in New York
Following the 2024 Presidential election there was a spurring debate over integrity and the inclusivity within sports, specifically regarding Proposition 1, which was passed in New York. Within this story I presented facts surrounding transgender athletes in sport and met with a professional to further explore this topic.
Filtered Reality
Social media has become a defining force in shaping modern beauty standards, influencing individuals from childhood into early adulthood. This honors thesis explores how platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat perpetuate beauty ideals, through a short documentary. Using in-depth interviews and diverse participants of varying ages, the documentary analyzes personal narratives and media theories, including social cognitive theory, super peer theory, and propaganda theory, to explore the deeper mechanisms behind these influences.
